PARIS – Lesbian women and single women in France may soon have access to medically badisted procreation badistance for the first time.

The government of President Emmanuel Macron presented Wednesday a draft law on bioethics providing for the extension of treatments such as in vitro fertilization or IVF. Currently, the procedures are available only to heterobadual married couples, which LGBT rights groups and single women have long criticized as unfair.

The government says this measure is a response to "unprecedented technological advances" and societal changes.

The bill now goes to Parliament, where the centrist party of Macron is in the majority. But many conservative and far-right activists oppose this measure and are already planning to protest against it to challenge Macron's leadership.

The bill also includes new rules on parental rights and genetic research. Substitution pregnancies will remain illegal.
