Barcelona has launched an improved offer for the Real Betis Junior Firpo defender.
Firpo, 22, has been badociated with Liverpool and Manchester United this summer after an impressive campaign last quarter.
He has also played for Spain at the U21 European Championships with a host of clubs watching him.
The Barca leads the race and has rejected an offer of 18 million pounds sterling by Betis, while the club La Liga resisted about 27 million pounds sterling to the defender.
The champions of Spain would return with a new offer worth about 24 million pounds.
The boss of Barcelona, Ernesto Valverde, wants to compete with Jordi Alba in order to replace the left back in the long run.
Filipe Luis had been a short-term option for Barca after his departure from Atletico Madrid, but he returned to Brazil with Flamengo.
According to SPORT reports, Barca has also considered David Alaba, Ricardo Rodriguez and Raphael Guerreiro, but Firpo remains the preferred option.
And the giants of Camp Nou now hope that Betis will come to the table and negotiate an agreement with the young defender.
The Betis agree to let the defender alongside midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.
Tottenham remains interested in the Argentine midfield but is reluctant to respect his £ 88 million release clause.
The Betis were ready to accept an offer of at least £ 68m after replacing the midfielder with Liverpool's former goal, Nabil Fekir.
But it is understood that a compromise is about to be reached that will allow Lo Celso to join the Spurs for an amount between 54 and 60 million pounds.
