The first group of Muslim pilgrims boarding the 2019 hajji was airlifted from Tamale International Airport in the northern region of Saudi Arabia.

The Boeing 747-400 aircraft carried four hundred and ninety-two (492) pligrims on its first voyage.

Mion Lana and other northern chiefs led pilgrims to the region in Saudi Arabia.

Muslim pilgrims underwent immigration controls at Aliu Mahama Stadium, where the Hajj village is located, before being transported to Tamale International Airport.

Sheik I.C Quaye, chairman of the Hajj board of directors, told reporters that the government was well prepared for the arrival of the pilgrims from Ghana.

According to him, the government has secured 5-star hotels for the comfort of pilgrims in Saudi Arabia.

He said that last year, Ghana was designated as the best country among the black African countries that embarked on the hajj in Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Quaye revealed that arrangements had been made for Ghanaian meals to be served to Ghanaian pilgrims throughout their stay in Saudi Arabia.

Interior Minister Ambrose Dery urged pilgrims to be ambbadadors of Ghana and to respect the laws of Saudi Arabia.

He encouraged northern leaders to maintain the current religious peace in the region.
