The Model African Woman of the Year 2019 was awarded to Ghana's first Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.

The ExLA group, at a ceremony held yesterday on the occasion of the fourth edition of the Congress of Young African Women (YAWC) at the auditorium of the Bank of Ghana at the University of Ghana, awarded him the prize.

The Chef de Cabinet is a development consultant with 40 years of professional experience in organizations such as FAO and UNDP. She is also a former member of parliament (MP) from the constituency of Ayawaso West Wuogon in Accra and was former government minister of former president John Agyekum Kufuor.

During her tenure in Parliament, she played a key role in the adoption of the Ghana Disability Act, the Ghana Labor Law and the Human Trafficking Act.

She was named Ghana's first female chief of staff in 2017 by President Akufo-Addo.
