On Wednesday, 266 recruits lost their lives after an intensive six-month training at the National Police Training School.

Recruits, consisting of 144 women and 132 men, were trained in criminal law and investigation, practical police duties, criminal procedure, professional police ethics and community policing.

The other courses were: service instructions, map reading and traffic management, human rights, the law of evidence, English and report writing, as well as basic officer skills.

Mr. Henry Quartey, Deputy Minister of the Interior, who revised the parade, urged the recruits to follow the company's slogan: "Serve with integrity", calling for honesty, respect for fundamental freedoms and human rights, professionalism, dedication and efficiency. and efficiency.

Mr Quartey said that Ghanaians regard the Ghana Police Service as the most corrupt public institution in the country, due to the unprofessional behavior of some of its employees.

He explained that negative behaviors, such as extortion and brutality, were almost regularly reported in print and electronic media, which undermined public confidence and thus tarnished the brand image. of the police service.

"… As you come out of the line of duty, consider yourself agents of change and I urge you to strive to reverse this unpleasant perception by engaging in professional acts and behaviors specific to improve public confidence and foster a consistent partnership with the public you serve. He advised the recruits.

The Deputy Minister reiterated the need for citizens to feel the sense of the Service's mission to fulfill their mandate in crime prevention, detection, arrest and prosecution. prosecution of offenders in accordance with their expectations of maximum protection, security and community peace. .

Mr. Quartey therefore asked recruits to demonstrate professional and ethical conduct during the 18-month probationary period to be confirmed as constables.

"Those whose conduct and performance will be considered inappropriate during the period will not be confirmed and will be summarily dismissed because you are unlikely to become an effective policeman," he added.

The government, the deputy minister said, will continue to give priority to re-equipping the police service to keep pace with current security challenges.

In doing so, he added, vehicles, communication gadgets and other crime-fighting gadgets have been provided to the Service to improve its operational efficiency.

The deserving rookies were honored in the "Best Rookie" categories: academics, drills, physical training, sniper, child-friendly conduct and maintenance. Recruit Richard Afetor has emerged as the best rookie.

The recruits adorned the opening ceremony with a cultural presentation, gymnastics, group performance and exercises to introduce Ghanaian culture.
