The EQS should be powered by two electric motors – one on the front axle and the other on the rear – providing a permanent all – wheel drive. In the EQC, this facility will provide more than 400 hp and a capacity of 516 lb-ft. A lithium-ion battery with a capacity of about 90 kWh should provide a range of 400 to 500 km.
Mercedes confirmed that the EQS system would be produced at its main plant in Sindelfingen, a suburb of Stuttgart. It is the third German factory to produce an EQ model, with the construction of the EQC in Bremen and the EQA in the compact car factory of Mercedes in Rastatt.
An additional EQ model, probably an GLB based EQB SUV positioned under the EQC, will be produced at the Smart plant in Hambach, France.
