The government has put in place a pre-basic education program for basic education, which should come into effect from September 2019.
New pre-tertiary education must provide quality education to students and train teachers in curriculum requirements.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh, revealed it when he took part in the Meet-the-Press series in Accra to inform the media about the status pre-tertiary and tertiary education in the country.
He added that the new program would meet the challenges of the old program, whose content was overloaded and could not provide enough data on improvements to be made to the teaching and to the program. learning.
According to him, the new curriculum was developed by Ghana's education experts to promote nationalism, patriotism and national unity, indispensable to nation-building.
Key features of the program include a focus on reading, writing, numeracy and creative art in all elementary schools.
Dr. Prempeh added that the program also reintroduced the Ghanaian History into Schools from a Ghanaian perspective, in order to give students in-depth knowledge of the country.
"Physical education and sport have been reintegrated into the new basic education program as part of a balanced education program, while provision has also been made for the development of essential basic skills. in schools, "he added.
The new program would strengthen the teaching of mathematics, information and communication technologies (ICT) and French with a focus on equity and inclusion, added the minister.
In addition, teachers in kindergarten (KG) and primary school as well as other relevant actors in the school curriculum are being trained.
With regard to the free education policy in high school, Dr. Prempah said that the number of high school enrollments had increased by 43% in two years, thanks to the 39 Access created using the Double-Track system.
He pointed out that the dual-track system would leave no children behind, but would continue to give all children in the country the opportunity to obtain a certificate of completion of high school in their favorite schools, adding that Second-year students would stay on this system. .
With respect to higher education policy (TEP), the Minister indicated that his policy was aimed at addressing issues of governance and management of public higher education, including the appointment and appointment of Key Accountants and Accountability in Higher Education Institutions.
