The boy's mother, Edith Vega, told local WSB-TV that she had put her son Lorenzo on the ground while printing his boarding pbad. When she looked up, he was on the treadmill.

"When I tried to follow it, it was at the end of the machine," Vega said. "I could not even catch myself … I wanted to step in and try to pick him up, but they did not let me in. I was just panicking.

An Atlanta police report says that a TSA officer alerted authorities after finding Lorenzo in the baggage room with a broken right hand.

Spirit Airlines says it is working with the TSA and airport officials to make sure the proper protocol has been followed.
