eBay at the forefront of Amazon's historical growth. The auction site works very well, thanks a lot, but in terms of revenue, it's only a fraction of the e-commerce giant. This ship has almost certainly sailed, but eBay is finally preparing a service to take over Amazon's offer more directly.

Launched in the US next year, Managed Delivery is an end-to-end delivery offering for eBay sellers. The company will store the merchandise sold in third-party warehouses, which will allow faster processing of orders, while offering sellers the opportunity to make free delivery with a processing time of two or three days.

These are not the only lessons that eBay has learned from Amazon. There is also the question of the brand. By the press release,

With approximately 1.5 million packages sent daily to the United States by eBay sellers, Managed Delivery will also place hundreds of millions of eBay-branded boxes and packages in galleries across the United States during coming years. These branded packs will not only provide a better shopping experience for customers, but will significantly enhance eBay's brand image as a popular shopping destination.

According to Reuters, the new offer should apply to half of the items currently listed on the auction site. Better late than never, maybe.
