Arsenal has confirmed the signing of William Saliba of Saint-Etienne on a long-term contract.
The 18-year-old defenseman would have cost the Gunners about £ 27 million and was loaned to his former camp for the 2019/20 season.
Saliba said for the first time as an Arsenal player: "It's a great pleasure to sign for a very big English club.
"This is the biggest club in England for me, so it was an easy decision to make. I have not thought twice before signing here, so I'm really happy.
"The story, the badge … Since I was little, I watch Arsenal play in the Champions League, etc.
"And a lot of French players have been there. It really helped me make a decision.
"I talked to Matteo [Guendouzi]. I even met him at a carnival in Paris and that's when I told him that Arsenal wanted to sign me!
"He kindly advised me to come here and explained how it was.
"I wanted to prove myself a year in Saint-Etienne before coming to establish here at Arsenal.
"It's a great club and when you come here, you have to be ready. So I will try to spend an excellent season with the club that developed me to prepare for Arsenal.
