Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thinks that the £ 15 million winger, Daniel James, has already proved that he can handle the door men of the Premier League.

James, the Welsh-fast international lightning striker, picked up from the Swansea Championship this summer, found the United's preparation tour in the Far East a grueling experience.

He has been targeted in all four matches in Australia, Singapore and China.

And last night in Shanghai, he survived two brutal badaults by midfielder Spurs Moussa Sissoko in the first half.

Sissoko first crossed James in front of the team benches.

Then loaded into the Welsh from behind near the flag of the corner before catching him imprudently in his chest with his nails.

James is arrested by Sissoko

The Frenchman managed to avoid a yellow card during a brusque encounter that earned him three yellow cards – and apologies Spurs boss, Mauricio Pochettino.

Solskjaer also confessed that he feared that someone was seriously injured, but did not complain about the intensity of the fight.

United lost defender Eric Bailly, who had a knee injury, after his stallions were stuck in grbad at the Hongkou stadium.

But afterwards, United boss welcomed the way James handled his baptism of fire.

Solskjaer said: "Dan is so fast and it's not easy to time against him. I can understand why the players confuse their tack with him, but he's a good little boy and he just jumps on it.

"He received a few shots during the tour, but as an old man, I like to see the tackles. There is no way to roll, dive or pretend with Dan. If he stays on the ground, that's because he's hurt.

Sissoko makes James fall

"Of course, we want players to be supported, but it's a male sport. We can not lose by tackling football – as long as you tackle it fairly.

"It's a competitive sport and we're gearing up for the league – and that's why we have referees. I thought it was a very good preparation to prepare for the league.

"I have no qualms about some of the tackles. You worry, but we also gave. We did not just receive it.

Pochettino, the boss of the Spurs, was more concerned about how the boot appeared.

He said: "Some situations have bothered me a bit and I was not happy.

"It was a friendly game and in some situations – when you're tired, when it's too hot, you do not have the right tempo – you can arrive late and something can happen.

James should be tenacious

"I apologize on behalf of our players to Manchester United. But I think in the second half, they gave it to us, but it's football.

"It was not their intention. When you are tired, you arrive late. I was worried because when you are in preparation, you have to be aggressive and play with pbadion.

"Eric Bailly was hurt – and I'm sorry – but he was alone when that happened.

"Still, when players start to improve their fitness and start fighting for their place in the team, something can happen in pre-season because it's always difficult.

"I was a little worried, but in the second half, the game was a little more relaxed."
