Amazon is planning to expand in New York, just months after the signing of the controversial deal on the construction of a second seat in the city, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Amazon is in talks with the WeWork coworking center to rent a 12-story building that it owns in downtown Manhattan. The building, which could accommodate "several thousand employees," was formerly the home of the Lord & Taylor retailer's flagship department store.
Amazon's plans to build a new headquarters in New York collapsed in February. The e-commerce giant has canceled its plan to set up its HQ2 campus in Queens, Queens Borough, following strong criticism from local politicians, residents and union representatives, who challenged the terms of the agreement to get Amazon to settle in the city.
Although QG2's proposed campus would have created 25,000 jobs in New York, Amazon would have benefited from $ 3 million in tax relief under the agreement. Meanwhile, Amazon's QG2 plans are still moving forward with a location in northern Virginia.
At present, approximately 5,000 Amazon employees are based in New York City in many office buildings, including a distribution center located in Staten Island.

WSJ reported on Thursday that Amazon was considering "multiple locations" across Manhattan. According to rumors, Amazon reportedly planned to visit two new buildings located near Penn Station and Industry City in Brooklyn.
