Accra, 25 July, GNA – Ghana will host the
first step of the meeting of the governors of the World Bank organized by the African Caucus in 2019
International Monetary Group (GBM) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Accra between July 31
and August 2nd.
Ghana hosts the meeting through the
Ministry of Finance and Bank of Ghana.
The caucus includes the ministers of finance and
The governors of the central banks of the IMF and the World Bank Group, created in 1963 to
forum to help organize and articulate the collective African interest within
the two Bretton Woods institutions (IBW).
A statement from the Ministry of Finance and
a copy to the Ghana Press Agency said the two-day meeting would be formally
opened on August 1st with a speech by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
He said the meeting should attract
approximately 350 delegates from Africa and the Bretton Woods institutions, and that the meeting would be
on the theme: "Africa Beyond Aid – Strengthening Institutional and Social Capacity
Innovative financing for sustainable growth ".
The statement says that the theme defines the vision
and ambition for Africa to transform and grow its economies faster and faster.

Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, Chairman of the African Council
Caucus and World Bank Development Committee, reportedly
that "the organization of the African caucus meeting in Ghana cemented the government's effort
position Ghana as a diplomatic and commercial center, particularly after the
selection of Ghana as secretariat of continental African free trade
Region (AfCFTA).

The statement indicated that the meeting would be
centered around: Improving human capacity and skills development to accelerate
Jobs and economic transformation; Strengthening institutional capacity and
Public Financial Management; and promote innovative finance for an individual
Sector-led growth.
He added that the speakers from Ghana would like
include Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister of Finance; and Mr Alan Kyerematen, the
Minister of Commerce and Industry.

President Emeritus of the African Development Bank; Prof Emmanuel Nnadozie, the
Executive Secretary of the African Capacity Building Foundation and Mr. Sergio
Pimenta, IFC Regional Vice President for the Middle East and Africa;
The others are Mr. Aïchatou Boulama Kané, the
Minister of Planning of Niger; and Mr. Acha Leke, President of McKinsey's
Africa region.
