Puerto Rican Governor Ricardo Rosselló made a televised speech announcing his resignation after nearly two weeks of demonstrations calling for his resignation. The streets of San Juan burst with joy as the news spread.
Rosselló was involved in a scandal involving offensive discussion messages and government corruption. The beleaguered governor said he would remain in office until August 2, when Puerto Rican justice secretary Wanda Vázquez took over.
During his tenure as governor, the island was hit by consecutive hurricanes in 2017, which killed about 3,000 people and caused mbadive destruction just months after the US land bankruptcy.
