"During a patrol on Thursday, July 11, 2019, the Vanguard Working Group of the Ashanti region was warned of a local man who claimed to be one of our members ".
This was featured in a statement made to the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday, July 24 by Captain Andy Sowatey, Vanguard's public relations manager.
According to the communique, the suspect identified since under the name of Arnold Aidoo, aged 33, was arrested while he was operating in the Dompoase area and has since been handed over to the Fomena police for the purposes prosecution.
According to the statement, Mr. Richard Nkrumah, 35, was also apprehended in Bogoso Junction, in the Western Region, and is currently under the custody of the Tarkwa Police for the purpose of further investigations.
"The first checks of the suspect's conduct by Operation Vanguard indicated that he had gone to various sites in Galamsey, claiming to be the officer in charge of the Taskforce's personnel in the region of the West.
"Many of these unauthorized individuals in these areas of galamsey claim to be affiliated with Operation Vanguard.
"The working group is therefore appealing to the general public to report these people if they meet them.
"The general public should also note that Operation Vanguard does not accept any form of public payment for the tasks that it carries on.
"Under no circumstances should any members of the general public make payments to people who claim to be members of the Operation Vanguard Task Force," the statement said.
