City Power has recruited "strategic external partners", experts in cybersecurity, to work with their team after being hit by a ransomware virus that has encrypted its databases, applications and network.
The spokesman of the public service, Isaac Mangena, said last Thursday that he had managed to restore most of his computer systems, including the prepaid electricity sales system.
He added that most customers were now able to buy electricity.
He said the virus had attacked their databases and other software, affecting most of our applications and networks.
"Today & # 39; hui [Friday], the server that provides big users, has been restored and can now be sold, "said Mangena.
He added that some applications were still down, which prevents customers from accessing their website.
Mangena had urged residents to use their City Power mobile phone app, which was "ready to go".
"The team has been working all night and will continue to work to have the recovery and restoration process finalized.
"Our cyber security investigators also worked to determine the source of the virus and who was responsible for it, and they treat it as a threat to security."
