Jurgen Klopp makes a "promise" to Liverpool star Rhian Brewster

Jurgen Klopp has "promised" to Rhian Brewster that he will have an important first role to play in the first team this season.

The 19-year-old has recovered from serious knee and ankle injuries that prevented him from progressing in the past 12 months and made a strong impression during Liverpool's pre-season campaign.

Brewster took the opportunity to shine in the absence of the three stars of Liverpool, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, all of whom were given extended breaks as a result of their international commitments this summer.

Liverpool has been ultra-conservative in the transfer market this summer by its recent standards. Klopp firmly refused to consider the prospect of bringing Philippe Coutinho back from Barcelona despite his apparent availability.

UEFA Champions League holders remain interested in Nicolas Pepe, but the emergence of Brewster played a role in Klopp's decision not to sign direct replacements for Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke, who joined Bournemouth permanently in January.

'I love the boy, he is a fantastic player. Why should I minimize this? 'Said Klopp.

"Rhian Brewster is a leading striker, he is an exceptional talent and I've already told him that he had an important role to play this year, but its importance depends on him."

The 19-year-old has already scored three times in pre-season and is expected to play in upcoming matches against Napoli and Lyon before the Premier League curtain against Norwich on Aug. 9.
