Kwame Sefa Kayi, host of Peace FM's morning show, was deeply shocked by the presentation of Ghana's budget for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
On Wednesday, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, asked Parliament to provide a detailed breakdown of money spent on the Black Stars in Egypt.
It appeared that a total of $ 4.5 million? the same amount as Algeria (the overall winner) received? was spent.
During his morning show on 'Kokrokoo' yesterday, Sefa Kayi strongly criticized the Sports Ministry and the current administration of the national team for using the Black Stars as an excuse to divert public funds.
He said, "This thing is systemic. Black Stars is a cash cow on which people are betting to divert money from Ghana. So today, Kwame Sefa Kayi, I say that Kwesi Nyantakyi was justified.
"The prize money for winning the tournament is $ 4.5 million. Of course, the joy that could have won our country if we won would have been invaluable. It would have been invaluable, but that's part of the story.
"But how can you participate in a tournament knowing that the final figure you can win is $ 4.5 million, as you sit down and prepare a budget of over $ 6 million, which is more that the final price?
I will therefore ask the same question as I have already asked. If it was your own money, would you spend it that way? He asked.
He added, "Even though we badume it's a gamble to place your own money knowing that the total amount of money you can possibly earn is $ 4.5 million, is it?" what would you put in money that is more than the final figure chance of winning?
"But we found a way to justify a budget of more than $ 6 million.
When we went, we were eliminated in the second round and by that time we had already spent $ 4.5 million, the money we would have earned as a tournament country if we had won, "said Sefa Kayi.
