Nearly 150 people drowned after the sinking of their boat off the coast of Libya, confirmed the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
About 300 people reportedly embarked on the dangerous sea crossing from the port city of Al-Khums, 80 kilometers east of Tripoli, said the spokesman of the UNHCR, Charlie Yaxley.
Some pbadengers were rescued by local fishermen, who were later joined by the Libyan coastguard, he added.
