But the midfielder revealed that he had kept his eyes riveted on the Gunners because of his "idol of childhood" Reyes and that the Spanish father had helped him to make his decision.

Ceballos said on the official website of Arsenal: "This is a historic club that I have always looked for, because of Jose Antonio Reyes who is from the same city as me and who played here.

"He made history in this club by winning the title of champion. It is therefore an important step in my career to join Arsenal.

"I talked to her [Reyes’] Father just before coming here and he told me not to think about it twice because it's a wonderful club. Jose had a fantastic time here.

"When I arrived at the training ground, I saw a picture of him and it really struck me, because he is like my idol of my childhood."

Reyes was part of the Arsenal Invincible team who remained undefeated in 2003-04 and won the Premier League.

The 35-year-old was tragically killed on June 1 when his Mercedes Brabus S550V exited the A-376 near his home town of Spain.

Ceballos also sought advice from Hector Bellerin, who also recommended him not to hesitate to become Unai Emery's second summer rookie.

"Well, as you know, there are Spanish players like Nacho Monreal and Hector Bellerin.

"I get along very well with Hector, away from football, on a personal level.

"I told him I thought I would become a member and he told me not to think twice, because it's a big city and a big club and I would have a good time moment.

"I'm looking forward to seeing him and thanking him for his help in bringing me here."
