Although they divorced more than two decades ago, relations between Prince Andrew and Sarah "Fergie" Ferguson have remained in the limelight. Both are one of the most talked about royal couples and their actions leave a lot to be seen as one day they could get back together. However, one wonders what the situation would be like if it did not happen or if the prince met and married someone else.
Even after their divorce, Fergie holds the title of Duchess of York because Andrew is the Duke of York, but what would happen if we married another woman? Would Ferguson keep the title or should he give it up?
What title Ferguson lost after the divorce
After the final divorce of Ferguson and Prince in 1996, she continued to use her Duchess of York title, which was customary. But she also used the style of Her Royal Highness, which was not. A few months later, letters patent regulating royal titles after the divorce were issued.
It was stated that Fergie could no longer use the HRH style since the end of her marriage to Andrew. However, she was still able to retain her duchess title and is now officially known as Sarah, the Duchess of York.
Prince Andrew said they would not remarry
With all the rumors of reconciliation surrounding them, many royal fans would like to see Andrew and Sarah Ferguson walking back into the aisle one day. But according to the prince, this will not happen.
The Duke answered this question directly years ago.
"No. [We will not re-marry], "He said in an interview with the Daily Mail in 2010, adding," We are both in a better place. It's because we are in a better place, which probably explains why we are able to stay close friends. We have two wonderful children. We do things together as a family.
What will happen to Fergie's title if he marries someone else?
Because the royal and his ex-wife are still very close lately and apparently live together under the same roof, it does not seem that Andrew is rushing to bind himself so soon with another. But the question remains: would he marry another woman in the future, what would happen to the York Duchess title that Fergie currently uses?
The Express noted that this scenario had never occurred within the British royal family, but that Andrew's new wife was remarrying with what had happened when the new Andrew's wife became "HRH the Duchess of York, Princess Andrew". "As that is the title decreed for former brides of peers by the most recent letters patent."
On the other hand, though, if Ferguson chooses to remarry, the title will be removed from his name.
