DIEGO COSTA earned its reputation by scoring four goals, then a 22-man brawl while Atletico Madrid thrashed Real Madrid in New York.
Costa went from sublime to ridiculous as he stole the show with a superb performance in Atleti's 7-3 victory before being kicked out after an hour.
The former Chelsea star was eliminated by Real's Dani Carvajal, which caused both players to stand in midfield as their teammates rushed into the fray.
Costa, 30, and Carvajal both received red cards while the high-level friendly at MetLife Stadium was overflowing.
The players on both sides then had to be separated and the real boss Zinedine Zidane was forced to run on the ground to calm his team.
The incident overshadowed the magnificent spectacle of Atleti which provoked the humiliation of their Madrid rivals.
Can we have each El Derbi Madrileño in the United States?

Zidane and Diego Simeone have named strong teams for the International Cup of Champions game, but Real have been stunned by a 4-0 crash in 20 minutes.
Costa scored a hat-trick in the first period with goals of £ 114 million, newcomers Joao Feliux and Angel Correa to secure a 5-0 lead at half-time.
Real, with Eden Hazard, Sergio Ramos and Thibaut Courtois, were completely outclbaded, giving Zidane a glimpse of the full extent of his work to turn the club's fortunes into this season.
Gareth Bale has again been left on the bench among suggestions he is getting close to a move of 1 million pounds a week in Chinese Super League.
The second half was no different for Real as Atleti scored a goal in less than six minutes when Costa scored the fourth goal.
The Zidane team showed signs of improvement only when Bale arrived on the field, but that did not stop the club from crashing on a defeat of 7-3, which would increase the pressure on the coach.
