FJill Murphy's children's Worst Witch's books have often emphasized the similarities between them and Harry Potter.
Murphy herself has remained silent to this point. But in a new interview, she says she would appreciate a "thank you" from JK Rowling.
Rowling did not recognize Murphy's work as a source of inspiration, although The Worst Witch was first published in 1974 and had become a hit series when Rowling sat down to write her first story on Harry Potter.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Murphy said, "It would be nice, I suppose, that people say thank you. But you must be kind.
The two series feature young characters going on board: Miss Cackle's Academy of Witchcraft in Murphy's books, and the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and the magic of Rowling's stories.
While Hogwarts has boys and girls as students, Murphy's school is reserved for witches. Murphy's editors have "asked if I could make school a mixed school, which I did not want to do. In retrospect, it would have distorted the speech of those who came after me, "she said, apparently referring to Rowling.
Her heroine is Mildred Hubble, an accident-prone girl who aspires to become a witch. Murphy, 70, said that the character was partly based on herself and that she was inspired by the time she was walking home in the rain with two clbadmates and her mother said the girls were soggy looked like "three witches".
