Disney remakes have raised more than $ 7 billion worldwide since 2010

Although the consensus of criticism on "The Lion King" is not really laudatory, it is clear that Disney has managed to find an innovative and lucrative way to reissue his animated clbadic of 1994.

The visually lush movie grossed $ 543.6 million in its first 10 days and is expected to surpbad the $ 1 billion mark in August. "Aladdin", which debuted at Memorial Day weekend – also reserved for lukewarm critics – held up this summer. On Friday, the film broke the $ 1 billion mark at the global box office.

"The King Lion" and "Aladdin", like many of Disney's recent remakes, address both the growing fans of the '90s and a younger audience who might not have known animated feature films in 2D.

This series of remakes seems to have started with "Alice in Wonderland" in 2010, although there have been two real action movies based on "101 Dalmatians" in 1996 and 2000. Since "Alice" , Disney has several other remakes, including: "Maleficent", "Cinderella", "The Jungle Book", "Beauty and the Beast", "Alice on the other side of the mirror" and "Dumbo".

As Disney has adapted these clbadic animated films to feature films, it is not uncommon for them to update the script to reflect modern narrative and broaden the scope of the world in which the film unfolds. Not to mention the original "Dumbo" only lasted 63 minutes, while the new iteration has a duration greater than two hours.

In some cases, Disney has even reversed the story, as was the case with "Maleficent" in 2014.

Counting the first week of "Lion King" ticketing, Disney has earned more than $ 7 billion over the past nine years through the reinvention of its clbadic tales. It remains to come a sequel of "Maleficent" in October as well as a movie "Mulan" in 2020.

These remakes, released over the past decade, have far surpbaded the box office success of their predecessors.

For example, in 1991, "Beauty and the Beast" earned $ 424.9 million worldwide. In 2019, the remake brought in $ 1.2 billion.

Part of this success rests on the public's affection for the original film. This is particularly true for titles such as "Alice in Wonderland", "Sleeping Beauty" and "Dumbo", which have had very little box office success, but have gained popularity over the decades, because of the release of movies at home.

Another element is that movies are more widely distributed these days. Countries like China have not released a number of original Disney movies on their release. And, as these remakes incorporate more technological innovations – motion capture and realistic animation – foreign markets, like China, are becoming more and more numerous.

IMAX and 3D projections are very popular internationally and sell at a much higher selling price than traditional presentations.

So, as these remakes continue to be extremely successful at the box office, Disney will continue to produce even more.

The company currently has more than a dozen titles in preparation – sequels, simple remakes and others from the point of view of another character.
