Romelu Lukaku joked Manchester United fans by posting a photo alongside his agent Federico Pastorello with the caption "to follow".

The future of the Belgian international has been the subject of fierce speculation all summer, Inter and Juventus competing for his services.

Lukaku fell foul at Old Trafford last season when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho and played no role in United's pre-season campaign.

The 26-year-old traveled with the rest of the first team to Australia and Asia, but was found unfit to play and suffered a "minor injury".

Inter has seen several bids for Lukaku rejected by United in the hope of making a profit on a player bought from Everton for £ 75 million two years ago.

Juventus, who nominated Maurizio Sarri as Max Allegri's successor earlier this summer, now appears to be a more viable destination as the Serie A champions would be ready to engage in a potential exchange with Paulo Dybala.

Earlier Saturday, Pastorello said: "We improved our selection of forwards and reached the top with Lukaku, who is one of the top three forwards in the world."

The manager of Inter, Antonio Conte, said that he wanted to bring Lukaku to San Sir, after failing to sign the player when he was in charge of Chelsea.

"I think frustrated is a big word," said Conte before the defeat in preparation for last season's preparation against United.

"Lukaku is United's player and that's the reality. You know very well that I love this player, but also once when I was Chelsea coach and trying to get him to Chelsea. I think that today Lukaku is a player with United. That's the reality.

"I think right now, if you're talking about a player from another club, it's just not to talk about Lukaku because we have a great respect for United.

"As I have already said, I love this player and I consider him an important player for us, but we must also [time] there is a transfer market.

"We know very well what our current situation is and we'll see what happens but for now, Lukaku is a United player."
