Minister of Education, Mr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, aka Napo
The country's regional directors of education will be given a new 4 × 4 vehicle to improve their work before the end of this year.
Once again, each district education office and school supervisor will receive a van and a new motorcycle, respectively.
Education Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh, aka Napo, announced the announcement Thursday at the opening of a two-day orientation session for regional, district and education units directors of the northern sector of the country, in Kumasi.
The program aims to help participants understand the introduction of the new K-6 curriculum.
He said that the presentation of vehicles and motorcycles would help the beneficiaries in their supervision and control activities aimed at improving teaching and learning.
The new program, introduced from September 2019, would, among other things, contribute to improving teaching and learning at the basic level of education.
The Minister of Education stressed the need to give children, especially from kindergarten to primary, an adequate foundation in education for future development.
He therefore asked the participants to get more involved in supervising teachers to improve teaching and learning in their respective regions.
Professor Opoku Amankwa, director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), said that everything had been put in place for the introduction of the new program in September.
He said the 152,000 K-6 teachers would be grouped into different clusters for special training in August.
The intensive training, he explained, would help to expose teachers to what is foreseen in the new curriculum, adding that each teacher would also receive a resource kit to make them perform well.
Professor Opoku Amankwa, on behalf of the GES, congratulated the Government for receiving the necessary financial support, especially for the training of teachers in preparation for the introduction of the new program.
