This puts an end to 6 years of waiting for the trophy
The University of Cape Coast raised the trophy and earned bragging rights as new champions of the Ghana debate at the 6th annual Ghana University Championships held at All Nations University College in Koforidua. The competition was held from July 18 to 27, 2019.
The University of Cape Coast defeated defending champion Kwame Nkrumah, the University of Science and Technology, and the former champion of the University of Ghana to win the victory. This victory is the first for the University of Cape Coast since the start of the contest ending six years of drought.
The University of Cape Coast is one of the few universities to present only four teams. Composite teams;
1. Emmanuel Mylo Dadzie and Samuel Kojo Pinkrah (Winners)
2. Latif Lawrence Jorhowie and Emmanuel Nwanwa Mensah (semi-finalists)
3. Ellen Eyiram Cofie and Ernestina Siaw Amoako (quarter finalists)
4. Grace Adubea Dartey and Elizabeth Nketiah (finalists)
The team led by Mr. Eric Asamoah Awuah and Caleb Otabil also had Eugene David Dzagley, Josephine Addobea Newton, Obed Frempong Aboagye and Jessica Afful Tulebadi as referees.
The competition consisted of ten (10) universities; University of Cape Coast, University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Development Studies, University of Health and Allied Sciences, University of Energy and Natural Resources, University of Hawaii Winneba-Kumasi Education, All Nations University College, Islamic College College and University College of Perez.
The contest, inspired by the style of British parliamentary debate, included a total of 52 teams from all participating universities, including KNUST, the University of Ghana, UDS and UENR, presenting eleven (11) ten (10), eight (8) and September 7). respective teams, the highest of the tournament.
