Fifty-five young entrepreneurs get help to start a business

Accra, July 27, GNA – The inclusion of young people
Entrepreneurial Employment Development Initiative (YIEDIE), a project led by
by global communities and their partners, supported Thursday 55 young people
entrepreneurs with financing and tools to start their business.

The 55 recipient companies were rewarded
with funds and tools, amounting to 277,800.00 GTH, bringing to 100 companies
until here supported by the project in the Greater Accra region.

Beneficiaries include cartoonists,
electricians, tilers, painters, manufacturers of fiberglbad and aluminum,
metal manufacturers and carpenters, among many others.

The project is supported by Mastercard
Founded and implemented by global communities as a lead partner.

Other partners are Opportunities
Ghana Industrialization Center, Aurora Business Network, Boafo Republic
Limited and Association of Craftsmen of Ghana.

Ms. Kafui Vera Mills-Odoi, the project
Director, YIEDIE, said the five-year project, launched in 2015, was
designed to create economic opportunities in Ghana's construction sector
value chain for disadvantaged youth aged 17 to 24.

She said that the project has since its inception
supported 279 companies in all project cities – Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi and
Ashiaman; with funding of more than 1.7 million GH ¢, adding that
more youth businesses would be supported by the project before the end of the
year.

She said that people's perception of
the construction industry that it belonged to the non-performers, who had to
going to learn a trade, should change because it negatively affected the
sector.

Ms. Kafui stated that the project was intended to stimulate
confidence badociated with the profession in the built sector, whose approaches
had continued to evolve with the International Organization for Standardization
Certification (ISO) requesting that the built environment be realized in an environment
in a particular way.

She said that the issue of importing
artisans from neighboring countries have shown that the country lacked
number or a significant portion of Ghanaian artisans were not willing to
improve their skills.

She said that the issue of skills development is a
long-term goal and urged recipients to spend more time improving
their skills already acquired as part of the project.

She said: "We see a new dimension in
what we look at as skill development but a lot more needs to be done and
these people should have the opportunity to test their skills. "

For his part, Mr. Emmanuel Sin-nyet Asigiri,
the chief executive of the National Youth Authority (NYA), congratulated
the directors of the YIEDIE project for the immense contributions made in life
young entrepreneurs.

He says a look in the construction
industry in Ghana has shown that the sector is dominated by foreign investors.
while young Ghanaians are roaming the streets.

He said that in the future, the NYA
establish a relationship with the YIEDIE project, adding that "as a key
government agency supposed to be the spearhead of development, let's put our
we are leading together to see what we can do for young people. "

Asigiri urged beneficiaries to serve
ambbadadors to inform other young people who have not done their best
lives productive to take advantage of these opportunities.

He said already that the NYA has developed and
would soon deploy similar projects for the benefit of 10,000 young people across the
country.

He stated that the project entitled "Skills and
Employability Project 'consists of eight modules such as pearl making,
manufacturing, bakery and cosmetology, among others, to deploy to help
address the challenges of unemployment facing the country.
