Liverpool FC add sports midfielder to list of transfer targets

According to the Portuguese daily, Liverpool would be interested in the midfielder Sporting Idrissa Doumbia.

Jurgen Klopp's team recently played against the Portuguese and the Reds boss was impressed by his display as the team's presenter in the 2-2 draw in the United States.

Portuguese publication Record claim the Liverpool boss could make a move in the future.

It is unlikely that an agreement will be reached this summer, as the Reds have good depth strength in midfield, Doumbia being relatively inexperienced.

Twenty-one-year-old Doumbia made only four league games last season and was out of the bench eight times.

Klopp has already warned fans not to expect another summer of major spending after spending around £ 170 million in 2018.

Defender Sepp van den Berg remains the only new acquisition to date. Veteran goalie Andy Lonergan, 35, could also sign a contract.

And Klopp insists that he gives priority to the future of his current generation of players rather than bringing in new faces.

"It's actually our transfers, it's our transfers," said Klopp.

"I'm pretty sure no one really cares, because, how are you doing: you have a player, he's good, you want to keep him, if he signs a new contract, it just means that it is a bit more expensive if you want to sell it. It does not mean anything.

"In our case, it was (this) these are our transfers. These new contracts, keeping these boys here, were a strong, strong signal for the outside world. It's a wonderful sign, to be honest.

"I like the fact that these boys are really in a good football age, they won this cup, which is good. This obviously helps because it increases your base.

"(Before)," Are you a winner? "People are questioning you and we are all influenced by the outside world. If you do not win, you can not say, "I'm a winner, but it did not work. still out there.

"On the other hand, going through the darkest moments is very important. You have to lose big to realize that you are not a loser. You realize that's happened, yes, but you can still be a winner.

"All of these things have made us stronger and I'm glad they keep these boys together and have all these things.

"This group, apart from Ali (Alisson), Fabinho and Naby (Keita), the players we recruited last year, had a very dark defeat in the Champions League (in the final against Real Madrid at the end of 2017-18) brilliant moment in Madrid (against Tottenham in the final of last season).

"We lost to Madrid, we won in Madrid, it was as expected."
