MoPH workshop provides training on coding cancer data

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) organized a workshop on the appropriate practice of coding cancer data using the ICD-O coding system (International Clbadification of Diseases for Oncology).

Staff from the Qatar National Cancer Registry at MoPH, coordinators of the multidisciplinary team and the cancer registry team from Hamad Medical Corporation attended the workshop.
"This workshop is part of the project to create the Qatar Cancer Information Center (QCIC)," said Amid Abu Hamedan, head of the National Cancer Registry at MoPH.
"This will certainly improve the quality of the data reported in the registry and better inform the public and decision makers about the burden of cancer in the country."
A certified Tumor Registrar was invited to deliver the training for two days, during which the trainees received theoretical presentations and extensive hands-on training using real-world cancer data.
"Improving knowledge and understanding of cancer in the country was a key recommendation of the National Cancer Framework published in 2017.
