Frank Lampard urged Chelsea supporters to abandon a popular song in his honor that contains an offensive word about the traveling community.

More than 2,000 Chelsea fans traveled to the Madejski Stadium on Sunday to watch Chelsea beat Reading 4-3 in a pre-season friendly match.

Goals from Ross Barkley, Kenedy and two from Mason Mount sealed his first home win for Chelsea.

However, after the match, the new Chelsea boss urged fans to stop singing a song that includes the word "pikey" – a slang term that is considered by many to be an insult to the traveling community.

"Fan support was amazing," said Lampard. "I have not heard the song in question, and of course, if there is a song that contains offensive words, I do not want to hear it.

"I say that as a great Chelsea man who really appreciates the support I've had over the years.

"We do not want songs with offensive words. We do not want to hear that. If fans could sing other songs, I would support them.

"The club is very clear with the work we do off the field for anything that is offensive or prejudicial and we have made a lot of difference."

Lampard, however, was delighted to see his side see an animated reading up close.

"I'm happy," Lampard said. "However, time is running out and there is still much more to do before Manchester United."
