Basically, it's a simple science. Being attracted to a phone causes a decrease in mobility, which poses a serious health risk due to inactivity.

26% of overweight people and 4.6% of obese people spent more than five hours a day on their device.

She also revealed that the men participants had a 36.1% chance of being overweight and 42.6% of obese. Women were 63.9% likely to be overweight and 57.4% to be obese.

Academics were also more likely to have lifestyle habits that put them at greater risk for health problems such as heart disease.

Students were twice as likely to engage in Sugary drinks, fast food, sweets and snacks as well as physical activity decreased.

Mirary Mantilla-Morrón, specialist in pulmonary rehabilitation and cardiac vascular who led the study, said: "It is important for the general population to know that although mobile technology is undoubtedly attractive for its multiple purposes, portability, comfort, countless services, sources of information and entertainment, it should also be used to improve healthy habits and behaviors.

"Spending too much time in front of the smartphone facilitates sedentary behaviors, reduces the time of physical activity, which increases the risk of premature death, diabetes, heart disease, various types of cancer, osteoarticular discomfort and musculoskeletal symptoms. "
