Lyft's chief operating officer, Jon McNeill, leaves the company, told CNBC a source familiar with the situation. Lyft's shares were down more than 2% on Monday afternoon.

McNeill arrived at Lyft after leaving Tesla, where he was President of Sales and Global Services. He also launched and led eight technology and retail companies, according to the announcement of Lyft's hiring by McNeill in February 2018.

The announcement comes just months after the Lyft IPO in March. Stocks have had a difficult start to trading, but have risen more than 5% in the last three months. Lyft's market value has fallen by almost $ 4 billion since the close of trading on its first trading day. The stock closed with a market capitalization of $ 22.2 billion, but now stands at $ 18.6 billion.

Lyft refused to comment.
