The president of the US House of Representatives on Monday deposited a wreath at Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra, dedicated to the first president of Ghana.

Nancy Pelosi also signed the book of condolences on behalf of the government and the people of the United States of America.

She was accompanied by a congressional delegation while she was entering the mausoleum.

The mausoleum housed only the remains of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah until 2007, when the body of his wife, Fathia Nkrumah, was buried beside him.

After signing the book of condolences, Pelosi and his delegation went to the museum to appreciate some of the personal belongings of Ghana's First Family, including Dr. Nkrumah's publications.

While in Ghana, President Pelosi and her delegation will also pay tribute to Cape Coast and Elmina Castles.

At Cape Coast Castle, they will travel to the 'Door of No Return' to observe the 400th anniversary of the first landing of enslaved Africans in America.
