During this season of Lower bridge of the MediterraneanCaptain Sandy Yawn had to answer a series of questions about crew recruitment.
When chef Mila Kolomeitseva prepared food from a box, was filmed, possibly licking a steak, fans claimed she could not be a real chef. Fans also wondered how Yawn could have engaged Kolomeitseva.
Yawn spent a lot of time on social media explaining to fans how hiring for the show worked well or not for a charter. She served with Kate Casey on her podcast, The life of reality about what the hiring really is. In addition, she offered an exclusive overview of Kolomeitseva's life.
This is how the team is hired
When the cameras do not follow the crew of a yacht during Under the Med bridgehiring is usually done from top to bottom. Yawn explained to Casey that she usually had many interactions with her team.
"As a captain, I would hire the chief, the chief officer and the chief stew," she said. "The stew in chief, I would allow to engage the second and third stews. The chief officer, I would authorize to engage the master of the crew and the deckhands.
Yawn also hires the chief engineer, but allows that person to engage his team as well. She adds that the size of the team usually depends on the size of the boat.
What interaction does the captain have with the leader?
Sure Under the Med bridge, viewers often see the yawn in the American kitchen. She says that she usually has a lot of interaction with the chef. "Of course, I always talk to the boss," says Yawn. "The chief does or breaks the charter."
Yawn says about the series: "The series is a little different. There are cameras everywhere, not enough room in the kitchen. Mila was obviously a shock, again, I do not engage the crew. "
She adds that Kolomeitseva has definitely been a shock to her. "I trusted her and believed her," she says. "I have not seen much and there is a lot going on on the bridge. But in the marine industry, the leader and I are still talking. She would even go to lunch with the chef and talk about budget and supply. Yawn adds that the financial aspects she faces in charter are handled by the series, so she does not interact with the leader about it.
Shocking for the least
Yawn reiterated his astonishment about what Kolomeitseva had prepared for the guests. "Shocking, shocking, shocking!" Exclaimed Yawn. "I've never been in my career … when Hannah [Ferrier] I said and I ate the cake, we must get rid of it. "
But Yawn again stated that it was difficult to find a new chef in the mid-season. More, Under the bridge Crew members must go through an additional check beyond what is required for a regular charter
Yawn described his interaction with Kolomeitseva. "She has always been very respectful to me," she says. "I think she follows very well the authority. I think she was trained to do it, to be honest. But I did not see the other side of her.
