Google Cloud begins to support VMware workloads

On Monday, Google Cloud confirmed its partnership with VMware to begin supporting VMware workloads. This partnership will strengthen Google Cloud's efforts to meet the needs of organizations looking for ways to leverage hybrid cloud environments.

The new service will enable customers to run VMware vSphere-based workloads in the Google Cloud Platform (GCP), leveraging a platform managed by CloudSimple. Once an organization migrates its VMware workloads to a VMware-based software-defined data center (SDCC) running in GCP, it has full and native access to the VMware stack complete, including vCenter, vSAN and NSX-T.

Google states that it will provide the first line of support to customers while working closely with CloudSimple to provide support and appropriate service level agreements. "CloudSimple's VMware CloudSimple Solution" will be available on the Google Cloud market at the end of the year.

"Our partnership with Google Cloud has always been focused on meeting the needs of our customers and we are excited to expand this partnership to allow our joint customers to run VMware workloads on VMware Cloud Foundation in the Google Cloud platform, "said Sanjay Poonen of VMware in a statement. . "With VMware on the Google Cloud platform, customers will be able to leverage all the familiarity and investment protection of VMware tools and training as they execute their cloud strategies, and quickly put on the market of new services and exploit them in a transparent and secure way, hybrid cloud environment. "

This arrangement is similar to the cloud agreement announced by VMware with Microsoft earlier this year. Azure VMware solutions, which enable users to redeploy VMware workloads natively on Azure, also rely on the CloudSimple platform.

Meanwhile, Amazon Web Services has established a close partnership with VMware in 2016.

Google Cloud spent this year implementing a customer-centric business strategy to make Google Cloud "the easiest cloud provider to do business with", says Thomas Kurian , responsible for Google Cloud.

This largely means that customers can run critical workloads in GCP, including VMware and SAP workloads. Google has also introduced new tools such as the Anthos platform to enable hybrid and multi-cloud deployments.
