Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta wants permission to spend about $ 6.3 billion in his supplementary budget for the remaining months of the fiscal year.
That was on the Order Paper for Monday's business in Parliament when the minister presented the biannual review as well as the supplementary estimates.
On the basis of the Appropriations Bill for 2019, the Minister of Finance was authorized to spend about 78.7 billion ¢.
This could mean that the government's spending cap for 2019 would be 85 billion ¢ for 2019.
Deputy Finance Minister Kweku Kwarteng has already announced to JoyBusiness that the minister will announce new tax measures.
These are part of measures to improve government income for development and improve the livelihoods of Ghanaians.
Following the revisions to the 2019 financial framework, he stated that "the 201,779 credit of 78,771,833,602.12 for 2019 approved by this august badembly in November 2018 would not be sufficient to cover the programmed needs, which would bring this credit to 85 852 142.189 $ 527.94, "he said.
Mr. Ofori-Atta stated that the Government therefore asked the Honorable Members to consider and approve an amount of 6,370,355,925.82 ¢ as the Supplementary Estimated Budget of 78,771,833,602.12 for to increase to 85,145 the total number of appropriations revised for the 2019 financial year.
He added: "In accordance with Article 179 (8) of the Constitution, the request for additional estimate is made necessary by additional precautionary expenditure in response to the evolution of regional security and the amortization of contingent liabilities badociated with crystallized purchase or sale contracts. "
