Suzhou, China | AFP | Midfielder Julian Draxler said on Monday that Neymar's determined "Egos" and other Paris Saint-Germain strikers did not always make it easy for the team.

In an interview in China, the winner of the German Football World Cup told AFP he was still hurt by the French club's failure to go further in the Champions League last season.

PSG face Sydney FC in a friendly on Tuesday in Suzhou, China, but Draxler already has in mind what promises to be a promising new season for the club and for himself.

Draxler, who is part of Germany's 2014 World Cup winning team, said it was "a pleasure" to play with Neymar's offensive triumvirate, Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe, despite his challenges.

Brazilian star Neymar, who is in China but will not be involved in the match as he moves towards a full fitness, has made it clear that he wants to return to Barcelona.

"All are exceptional players, it is difficult to find players of this level in the world," said Draxler, who arrived in the French capital in January 2017 for a reported amount of 36 million euros from Wolfsburg.

"But of course, they have their own minds, their own heads, they live football, they want to score every game, so they have an ego.

"Sometimes it's not always easy for the whole team, but if you have the chance to play alongside these players, it's a pleasure every day."

Like Neymar, Draxler – who has more than 50 caps for Germany – has been badociated with a long-time defeat of France champions, having been in the starting lineup.

When asked how he would summarize his time in France so far, Draxler emptied his cheek and stopped.

"It's been two and a half years since I arrived and I've won a lot of (national) titles, so I'm happy about that," he said.

"I became a better player than before, so it's positive, but what's negative is what we achieved in the Champions League.

"We have not been far in the Champions League and it was one of my signature goals."

Financed by Qatari money and led by Draxler's German, Thomas Tuchel of Germany, PSG were eliminated in the last Champions League match after conceding a home goal against injured Manchester United.

"It hurts a lot, it hurts again that we have not gone through," Draxler said five months later.

"But the potential of the team, we are ready to go far in the Champions League."

During the summer, Draxler was linked to Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and Tottenham Hotspur, but he made it clear that he was focusing solely on showing PSG what he could do.

He said that he had "room to improve – a lot".

"I'm almost 26 years old and I think the best years of my career are coming now, I hope."

"Now, I have a good age: I have some experience but I am still young," he added.

"Let's hope the fans and the club will see the best version of Julian next season."
