The Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission has announced that the annual ban on hunting, capture and destruction of wildlife will begin on August 1, 2019 and end on December 1, 2019.

The five-month ban, also known as the "close season", complies with the Wildlife Conservation Regulations 1971, L.I. 685.

Anyone who contravenes the regulations would be guilty of an offense and liable on summary conviction to a fine.

A public notice signed by the Executive Director of the Wildlife Division indicated that the only wild animal that may be hunted during this period is the lawn mower (Akrantiɛ) and only under a permit issued by the Wildlife Division. of the Forestry Commission.

"During this period, it will be illegal for anyone to hunt, capture or destroy any wild animal, except the lawn mower (Akrantie), which can only be done with a permit issued by the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission, " the opinion says.

Lumberjack meat is a delicacy in Ghana because of its high protein content and low cholesterol compared to beef and goat meat.

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Ghana (MOFA) found that the consumption of logger meat was 49.7%, compared to 28.9% and 21.5% for beef and goat , respectively.
