The police asked for information about Steve Maia Caniço, a missing party animal.

A body found in the Loire is that of a man who disappeared after the descent of the French police in a music festival last month, local officials said.

Tuesday's autopsy on the badly decomposed body discovered near the festival site in Nantes confirmed that it was Steve Maia Caniço, 24 years old.

Fourteen others were rescued from the river soon after falling into the water during the June 22 police crackdown.

An investigation revealed no connection between the raid and the disappearance of Mr. Caniço.

This was announced Tuesday by French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe.

But he added, "More than five weeks after the events, what happened that night remains uncertain and I am not satisfied."

Since the disappearance of Mr. Caniço, posters "Where is Steve?" Have been placed around the city of western France. (Where is Steve?)

What happened in June?

The free techno party was organized as part of the Fête de la musique in France.

It was held on the island of Nantes, an island in the center of the city, surrounded by two arms of the Loire.

This annual event encourages people to play music in public places every 21st of June.

Police intervened to stop the party when it had not ended in the early hours of June 22, saying the music "was over time."

Witnesses said the police fired tear gas and rubber bullets.

Images were shared on social media, showing police carrying batons and riot shields moving along the banks of the Loire.

There was no barrier along the river and a number of partygoers fell before being rescued by firefighters.

Steve Maia Caniço was last seen at dawn on June 22nd. Friends say that he was missing when the police intervened.

Friends told the French media that he did not know how to swim, while witnesses described seeing a man struggling on the surface of the water.
