I went to Blaze Pizza in Staten Island (New York) and MOD Pizza in Bellevue (Washington) to see what the channels were doing differently.
My meal at MOD was a winner on all fronts, especially in terms of speed, taste and customization. However, Blaze made a better dessert.

And there is more than one way to run a national chain of casual restaurants offering custom pizzas à la carte. MOD Pizza and Blaze Pizza are neck and neck in the fast-casual-pizza run for quite some time. Blaze has been dubbed the fastest growing restaurant chain in history by the research company Technomic in 2017.
But in 2019, MOD's growth put Blaze out of the water, with system-wide sales increasing by more than 44%, according to Nation's Restaurant News. The Seattle-based channel plans to reach 1,000 locations over the next five years.
Both chains have almost identical concepts: fresh pizzas, quick to prepare, customizable with takeaway and draft beer.
So who does it better?

I went to MOD and Blaze to compare the culinary experiences. I ordered much of the same meal: a salad, a bread-based appetizer, a personalized pizza, a chocolate-based dessert and a draft beer.
