Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin
Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin said that the government's flagship agricultural project, Plant for Food and Employment (PFJ), was the future of the people of the traditional Akyem Abuakwa region.
According to him, "Planting for food and creating jobs, I repeat it all the time, is our future and not the community mining."
He added that "our option is to plant for food and jobs because it is sustainable".
Okyenhene noted that the natives of Akyem Abuakwa would be proud to grow food products such as corn, rice, among others.
He said investment in agriculture was important, describing the PFJ as the largest agricultural policy ever.
Okyenhene made the remarks when the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, paid him a courtesy visit to his Kyebi Palace on Monday, July 29, 2019.
The government introduced the community mining program after lifting the ban on illegal mining as part of efforts to promote responsible and sustainable mining.
But Okyenhene was firmly convinced that "community farming and planting for food and employment can not coexist".
