Reading Ofosu Ampofo NDC 27Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National President of the NDC

A high court in Accra rejected a petition filed by Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, national president of the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who wanted to end his criminal trial.

In his decision of Tuesday, July 30, 2019, Judge Samuel Asiedu, judge of first instance, stated that the concerns raised by the lawyers of Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo were unfounded and would continue to be heard while the appeal would be heard.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo had brought an action for the cessation of the proceedings before the court following an appeal from the judge's decision to dismiss two of the three counts against him.

He is the subject of a trial after hearing a tape in which he was heard that he was giving his blessing to the party communicators to attack the president of the electoral commission and the president of the National Council Peace.

Anthony Kweku Boahen, the party's deputy communications officer, is also tried as the second defendant in the same case.

They all pleaded not guilty to conspiracy charges to cause harm and badault to a public officer.
