Twenty-three people who claim to have suffered various forms of injury during the violence that rocked the partial election of Ayawaso-West Wuogon on January 31, 2019 sued the government for violating their human rights.

In a lawsuit filed on Tuesday in the human rights chamber of the High Court of Accra, the 23 claimants claim, among other things, reparations, a total of 5.75 million Gh. D & # 39; compensation.

Each applicant requests 250 000 Gh Gh as compensation.

The applicants alleged that the national security team deployed during the by-election had badaulted them, causing them various injuries.

The by-election held on January 31, 2019 was marked by a shootout at the residence of Mr. Kwasi Delali Brempong, NDC candidate, which caused injuries to 18 people.

An observer at one of the polling stations was also badaulted.

At La Bawaleshie School Park, the NDC MP for Ningo Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, who was observing the elections, was reportedly badaulted by unidentified gunmen.

The incident also prompted the opposition party to ask its agents to withdraw from the different polling stations.
