Dhaka, Bangladesh

The spread of the dengue virus in Bangladesh has reached new heights, officials said. Cases of mosquito-borne disease have been reported in all but two districts of the country.

There are conflicting reports on the number of deaths from the epidemic this year, local media bringing the number to 53 Wednesday Wednesday, while government data report eight deaths.

The viral disease has been diagnosed in a record number of 1,477 patients in the last 24 hours, according to the country's health services.

These latest figures have brought the number of people affected by dengue in the country since January to more than 17,000, a record.

In 2018, 7,450 cases of dengue fever have been reported in this country of South Asia.

The government is urgently responding to this epidemic by canceling the leave of doctors and staff of all public hospitals in preparation for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.

The symptoms of dengue fever include high fever and joint pain, but more severe cases can lead to hemorrhagic fever that can turn into major bleeding.

After weeks of fighting the virus, Saugato Bosu, a resident of the capital, Dhaka, is back in the hospital for treatment. Her sister, who is 10 years old, also contracted the virus.

The family has already paid $ 1,000 for treatment, as the country does not have a health insurance policy.

Doctors and health experts advised people to use anti-mosquito products and mosquito nets to sleep.

Mosquitoes breed in freshwater. It is therefore best to keep the house and surrounding areas free from stagnant water, they added.
