Huawei retains second place in smartphone shipments

The latest figures on global smartphone shipments show that Huawei has retained second place despite restrictions imposed by the United States on its activities. The South Korean company Samsung Electronics continued to dominate shipments from April to June.

The US research company IDC said that Samsung held 22.7% of the market, against 17.6% for Huawei.

In May, the US government effectively banned US companies from dealing with Huawei, citing security concerns. But the Chinese firm has managed to strengthen its home sales and strengthen its presence in the market.

Apple ranks third with a 10.1% share.

According to IDC, a total of 333 million smartphones were sold worldwide during the three months ended in June. This is down 2.3% over the previous year

One factor behind this decline is apparently that consumers are waiting longer to replace their old models with new ones.

During the quarter, shipments from Huawei grew by 8.3% and Samsung's by 5.5%. Apple shipments fell 18.2%.
