Obuasi East Assembly registers small-scale miners

The Obuasi Eastern District Assembly has developed a well-designed project to register small miners in the grbadland district.

At a meeting of the General Assembly held on Friday, July 26, 2019 in Wawase, the Honorable Faustina Amissah, Chief of Obuasi East District, told the members of the Assembly that the Assembly, Following a directive from the Regional Minister on a mining roadmap, established and inaugurated a committee to oversee the process.

Currently, she added, registration forms are out and registration is underway at the district badembly. She invited those interested to register and register.

Speaking of the successes she has been echoing since her appointment in August 2018, the Honorable Faustina Amissah said that the Assembly has so far supported 47 people living with a disability (DP) in the district. The support, which amounted to GH59,604.00, came from the Common Assembly of the District Assemblies.

She reiterated that work in a health insurance institution, as far as their district office was in progress and at an advanced stage. Once completed, the facility would reduce the stress of residents going to other districts to register.

With regard to education, the former educator said that the Assembly was determined to improve the level of education in the district. This, she said, is evidenced by the mock contest sponsored by the Assembly for BECE candidates in the district., The distribution of 800 monos and double desks to schools, seven (7) key projects in some schools in the district, among others.

For the future, said Mrs. Amissah, the Assembly is preparing to set up a new administrative building for the Assembly.

Edmond Agyei Oduro, acting sustainable development manager for the Anglogold Ashanti Obuasi mine, told the badembly that the company was committed to respecting its local content mantra.

He said "AGA will continue to employ local people who report to its operational area through our local content policy, so that Aboriginal people need to be patient."

Again, Mr. Oduro stressed that the creation of a university campus in Obuasi would help to stimulate and diversify the economy of Obuasi.

He said that the Knust Obuasi campus project was nearing completion and the first batch was due in September. According to him, this would ease Anglogold Ashanti's burden in terms of employment.

The members of the Assembly, the director of district coordination, Emmanuel A. Ntoso, the department heads and the media were all present.
