Pete Dunne fought Roderick Strong in the main event of the last episode of NXT. The match helped build a game at TakeOver: Toronto. Other games and series promos are also designed for TakeOver, with the episode being heavily focused on the next supercard.
Fandango also made a surprise to save his partner from the team against an attack by despicable heels in the opening match. The show opened with the entrance of Tyler Breeze.
Tyler Breeze defeated Jaxson Ryker (with Forgotten Sons)
Breeze pinned Ryker after being opposed to a chokeslam to get a decisive result. Steve Cutler and Wesley Blake joined Ryker after linking to the Breeze for a draw after the match. In a surprise return, Fandango made a backup to help clear the ring.
Ryker dominated Breeze early in the game, but Breeze resisted, showing fire and no fear. Breeze stomped mud holes in a corner, but Ryker caught him quickly.
Ryker had heat on Breeze, and he nearly fell after a back injury. Ryker continued to hit Breeze, then grabbed him for an attempt at chokeslam. Breeze countered and rolled Ryker for a fallen.
The heels jumped Breeze, but Fandango was saved. He and Breeze sent the Sons to pack their bags. This apparently looks like a team match.
The best moments of last week showed that Candice LeRae attacked Io Shirai. On this episode, LeRae paced the building. She was still strolling a little later in the show when William Regal met her on the outside. LeRae wanted a game at TakeOver against Shirai and Regal acceded to his request to make the match official.

Reed took a big part of the offensive in the game. They were playing cat and mouse, and Grimes was struggling to overthrow his biggest opponent. Reed splashed Grimes with a body press, then dropped him a Samoan drop. Reed made a move to score two goals when Grimes broke a rope.
Going and coming towards the end, Grimes was leaning on the ropes. Reed went running the ropes, but Grimes rushed at him with a sudden double blow for the fallen.
A featurette titled "Prime Target: TakeOver" is announced for next week. He will defeat the next two-of-three match between Adam Cole, NXT champion, and Johnny Gargano at TakeOver.
The next episode also provides for the signing of a contract for the title match of the NXT Tag Team at TakeOver with The Street Profits and Kyle O 'Reilly & Bobby Fish. In addition, Matt Riddle meets Killian Dain in a grudge match after Dain attacked him in a previous episode. Riddle made a promotion to Dain where he challenged him to meet him face to face instead of a sneak attack.
NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler is heading to the ring for a promo. She received the message that Mia Yim was trying to send after Yim jumped on her friends. Baszler vowed to make her sleep, then she called him a "street rat" who can not survive in Baszler's world.
Yim came out slamming the shirt wearing a really cool NWA shirt. The rap group, not the wrestling badociation. Yim confronted Baszler showing no fear. She made a promo on Baszler and said that this street rat would win the title.
Baszler called it "Street Trash" and held the title belt over his head. Yim did not back down at first and Baszler quickly left the ring. A title match between the two is official for TakeOver.
Pete Dunne defeated Roderick Strong
Dunne submitted Strong with the help of the break point on the finger. This match was the result of an angle from the previous episode where Dunne had made a surprise comeback on NXT television. Dunne also joins Strong to challenge North American champion Velveteen Dream in a three-threat game at TakeOver.
They started the match with the fight against the rug and the fight. They found themselves in a dead end, but Strong soon hit with a cheap enzuigiri. Strong raised pressure on Dunne, but Dunne defended himself with a Lariat bomber.
Dunne targeted an arm, then, moments later, tried to climb on the turnbuckles. Strong interrupted him and lifted him into a torture rack that he turned into a secondary defender. Another back breaker scored Strong near a fall. Dunne fired back.
Strong opted for a superplex that Dunne blocked to set up an avalanche gourdbuster. Dunne then jumped into a missile dropkick for a split count. An X-Plex Dunne gave rise to a penalty shot for another imminent crash.
They fought before teasing another spot on the turnbuckles. A strong Dunne cut and gave him a broken back on the apron. Strong followed, trying to finish Dunne with a burst for two more accounts.
Dunne fought back and tried his Bitter End finisher. Strong counter, but Dunne also countered with a DDT.
They went back to the top rope, with Dunne running a bomb at sunset. Strong still escaped Bitter End – only to have a Tiger Driver for two. Strong applied the Stronghold (Boston crab). Dunne countered by targeting Strong's fingers and hand. Dunne managed to break the finger and Strong had to submit.
Velveteen Dream ran after and said that he was considering hitting Dunne with a belt shot. Dunne caught him in the act and Dream tried to play him. Dunne did not have any, and slapped Dream's fingers. Fort fled while Dream was selling, while Dunne was standing at the closing of the show.
