MoMo woman trapped 12 months for simulating kidnapping

Beatrice Naa Lamley, a 19-year-old mobile money saleswoman, was sentenced to 12 months in jail after being found guilty of having simulated her own kidnapping.

On June 24, Beatrice allegedly conspired with three other people to simulate her kidnapping and demanded 10,000 Ghanaian cedis as ransom for her family.

A report was presented to the James Town police and, after two weeks of investigation, she was arrested in her Osu hiding place in Accra.

The police said they were pursuing the other accomplices whose names were Anthony Osei-Prempeh, Elijah Sam, Daniel and Evelyn.

In the other case, a mother of two, Lucy Awortwi, who is reportedly around 20 years old, was arrested after mocking a case of kidnapping her ex-husband.
