Pelosi, US delegation, holds high-level meetings with Ghana's President Akufo-Addo, representative of business, civil society and the world of work

– Today, the Congress delegation chaired by President Pelosi was welcomed to Jubilee House by President Nana Akufo-Addo and senior cabinet officials at high-level meetings. During their talks, both sides emphasized the importance of the US-Ghana bilateral relationship and the need to take advantage of public-private partnerships, the African Growth and Opportunities Act and other mechanisms. to increase manufacturing and production capacity and mutually beneficial business opportunities. They also recognized the importance of guaranteeing freedom of expression and the protection of human rights.

"Today, we reaffirmed our commitment to strengthening the bonds that unite our nations: freedom, democracy, justice and security," said President Pelosi. "Ghana is a bright star on the African continent, a leader in the export of security beyond its borders and a model of flourishing democracy for the world. The delegation began the day with a comprehensive briefing by the United States Embbady's Accra Country Team, led by Ambbadador Stephanie Sullivan. Priorities, including security cooperation, development badistance, trade and commodities, visas and other immigration issues, were discussed.

At a lunch with civil society leaders, the delegation heard from Ghanaians leading anti-corruption and transparency initiatives, as well as women business leaders and activists, Mandela-Washington fellows and other inspiring leaders.

Later in the day, the delegation visited the DTRT (Dignity Do The Right Thing Apparel) production workshops, West Africa's largest clothing manufacturer and beneficiary of the US Agency's programming for International Development (USAID) and AGOA.

During the evening, the delegation joined Joe Mensah, president of the American Chamber of Commerce – Ghana, at a reception with representatives of more than 100 companies. President Pelosi and Congressional Black Caucus Chair Bbad commented on the critical role US companies play in strengthening the economies of both countries and in promoting sustainable infrastructure.

Earlier in the day, the delegation also laid a wreath in memory of Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first prime minister and president.
